News and EventsMonash Open DaySunday August 3rd was Monash University Open Day. There were thousands of visitors to the campus to see what the uni has to offer. The Short Courses Centre had Le Bop dance demonstrations, an abstract art display and demonstration, silver jewellery making demonstration and a pottery workshop. Thanks to all who visited us on the day, and a special thanks to our staff and trainers who worked hard to make it a fabulous day.Mara Grimm hits the headlinesRecently our local paper featured one of our trainers, Jewellery artist Mara Grimm, with a story and photo. Mara runs all our jewellery classes and has been teaching at the Centre for some 8 years. Congratulations Mara on your recognition by the local media.Returning to Earning ProgramThis program still has grants available and we have had lots of interest from parents. This program is funded by the state government and allows eligible parents to access $1000 worth of training to assist them in returning to the workforce. Popular courses include computer training, Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management), book keeping, first aid, assertiveness skills and the Integration Aide course which is run by Monash University's Education faculty. Check the Returning to Earning website for eligibility and application details.Kids Holiday CoursesSeptember 2008 - Once again we will have a range of short workshops on offer for children during the school holidays. These are a fabulous way for kids to have a few hours enjoyment and learn new skills at the same time. Chocolate making, cartooning and pottery will all be available. Please book quickly as places are limited in each session. For details see Kids ClassesFREE Art Class TasterTutor, Alan Close, who teaches many of our art classes, will introduce some chalk and charcoal techniques in this free class on Monday September 1st, 10.30am-1pm. No drawing experience is necessary. For $5 Alan will supply all the materials needed. Please book early for this very popular session.
