CeramicsAll courses are conducted in the relaxed, non-competitive and creative atmosphere of a fully-equipped ceramics studio and are entirely hands-on. Courses cater for advanced students, teachers, those with special interests, and those seeking personalised programs. Some clay is provided. PotteryLearn wheelwork and hand-building in this fun course taught by professional potters. Learn the various qualities of clay, how to build with clay, basic sculpture, throwing pots on the wheel and working with glazes and slips. This course is run throughout the year for those who would like to join a regular class. Some clay provided. Req: Old clothes, bring along an old shirt and towel. Saturday Pottery - ThrowingRelaxed and creative Saturday class. Hands-on, with an emphasis on wheelwork and throwing. Suitable for beginners or those with experience. Some clay provided. Req: Old clothes, bring along an old shirt and towel. Students are encouraged to purchase their own tools - available for purchase from the Short Courses Centre. Sunday PotteryIf you are creative, but tight for time, then a pottery course on a Sunday morning where you can learn how to produce a range of ceramic objects from the whimsical to the functional will work for you! Your trainer is a fully qualified and practising artist with many skills and a passion for the medium. All materials and tools will be provided. Just bring clothes to get dirty in! 101POTUB: Sundays, 9-12noon 8 sessions from 18 April Figurative SculptureLearn clay making techniques to produce figures, animals and human forms to adorn your garden or as a water feature for your pool or pond. No prior training required. Techniques such as coil and slab hybrid construction will be primarily employed. Most materials and tools are provided in a wonderful open and light studio space. We will study clay preparation, centering, cylinders, bowls and then go on from there. 101WHEE: Mon-Fri,1-3:30pm 5 sessions from 22 March Pottery for Older AdultsFeel free to come along to a quiet pottery session! Have a go at creating something new and original. 101POTOA: Fridays,10:30am-12pm 2 sessions on 12 & 19 March Ceramic DecorationDuring this creative course you shall be introduced to a number of decorating techniques and will have a go at producing each during this fun and relaxing class. Starting with decorating wet clay, then leather hard clay and onto fired surfaces. Techniques- slip decoration, stencils, brush work, surface carving, laminating, sgraffito, glaze application, combing and piercing. All welcome! 101DECO: Wednesdays 10-12:30pm. 5 sessions from 14 April Creative Pottery for ChildrenHave fun stimulating the imagination and creating creatures such as monkeys, dogs, fairies, dinosaurs and monsters using a range of techniques including hand building and the potters wheel. This course runs year-round during school terms. Suitable for children aged 5-12 years. All materials provided. Please bring a smock. Term 1 - $120 Family Pottery DayGet the whole family together and enjoy a fun-filled session in our pottery studio. This relaxed class allows parents, children, grandparents, uncles, aunts and all the rest to have a play with clay, try the pottery wheel and have fun with handbuilding. Suitable for those with no experience. Materials provided. Please bring a smock for children and wear old clothes. 101POTFA: Sunday, 1:30-4pm 1 session from 28 February Preschool Pottery FunHave lots of messy fun rolling, squelching, prodding and stretching clay in this one hour session. Allows children to explore clay, which is a great sensory experience and much more challenging and stimulating than playdough. Suitable for 3-5 year olds. Adult participation required. Please bring a smock. 101POTPA: Tuesday, 1.30-2.30pm 1 session on 30 March A Day with Clay for ChildrenHave fun in this introductory ceramics session. Get your hands dirty and play with clay.
